Trooper Mark Naylor, 35, a 2008 graduate of Jennings County High School in North Vernon, has been assigned to the Versailles Post, Indiana State Police announced this week.
Naylor was among 21 new troopers who graduated from the 85th Indiana State Police Academy. He will begin his next phase of training while patrolling with veteran troopers. Upon successful completion of field training, Naylor will be assigned a state patrol vehicle and will begin solo patrol.
After high school, Naylor attended Indiana University where he graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He participated in the IU Police Department Cadet Program, serving as an IUPD Officer until graduation. He then served with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office from 2013-2015 and the Greensburg Police Department from 2015 until he was accepted into the Indiana State Police Academy this year.
Academy graduates have already completed more than 800 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques as well as hands-on training at the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. The curriculum includes criminal and traffic law instruction, emergency vehicle operations, psychology, crash investigation, self-defense, first responder, and other general law enforcement-related training.
Naylor and his family live in Decatur County. The ISP Versailles District covers Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings counties as well as counties south and east to the Indiana state line.
