The Columbus North volleyball team was outmatched by visiting Roncalli Thursday night.
The perennial power Royals controlled the match from start to finish to come away with a 25-13, 25-9, 25-13 victory.
The Bull Dogs (2-6) fell behind 6-1 early in the first set. They kept it tight for a few points to make it 11-5 until Roncalli went on a 5-0 scoring run to open a double-digit lead and take a one-set lead.
The second set started out just like the first, with North trailing 6-1. It stayed tight for a few points with the Bull Dogs still trailing 11-6. The Rebels then turned up the intensity and scored seven points during a 12-2 run to lead 23-8 and close out the set to lead 2-0.
It was all Roncalli in the third set. With a 5-3 advantage, the Rebels ballooned the lead to 18-3 and eventually closed out the match.
Karen Dutro finished with nine kills, four blocks and four digs for the Bull Dogs. Kennedy Horn added three kills and two blocks, and Lexi Denny had four assists.
Also for the Bull Dogs, Morgan Osborn notched seven digs, Elaina Penrod had two blocks and Reese Edwards recorded three assists.
North will compete in the Bloomington South Invitational on Saturday.
