College sports notebook: Lang scores again; locals help lead XC teams

North grads play for Centre, Hanover

HANOVER — Columbus North graduates squared off against each other Saturday when Centre (Kentucky) posted a 27-12 victory at Hanover in the season opener for both teams.

Centre sophomore Tyler Blythe carried five times for 19 yards and caught one pass for minus-1 yard. Sophomore Damon Edwards caught two passes for 16 yards for the Colonels.

Gilleys help lead Sycamores

Chloe Gilley led Indiana State with 14 digs and had an assist and an ace, and Cadence Gilley added an assist and a dig Friday in Indiana State’s three-set loss at Butler.

The teams played again Saturday at ISU, and Chloe Gilley, a freshman from Columbus East, notched eight digs and an assist in a four-set loss. Cadence Gilley, a junior from East, added seven digs and one ace for the Sycamores (1-4).

Bennett helps Knights to victories

Sarah Bennett recorded two kills, one block and one dig Wednesday in Marian’s four-set Crossroads League win at Spring Arbor.

Clark competes for Bethany

Andie Clark recorded one kill, four digs and one ace Friday in Bethany College’s three-set loss at Otterbein.

Clark, a junior from Hauser, had one kill, six digs and led Bethany with three aces in Friday’s five-set win against Westminster (Missouri).

Clark added two digs and one ace in both of Saturday’s games, three-set losses at Capital and against Hanover for Bethany (3-5).

Barnett, Stohr help lead Bison to titles

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Mackenzie Barnett finished second individually Saturday to lead Lipscomb women to the team title at the Trevecca Opener.

Barnett, a senior from Columbus North, ran 17 minutes, 51.9 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles).

Andy Stohr, a senior from North, finished 10th in 15:43 to help the Bison men to a team title. Stohr was Lipscomb’s No. 5 runner.

Swegman, Kistler power Panthers

SHELBYVILLE — Callie Swegman finished 41st Saturday to lead the Hanover women to a 10th-place team finish in Franklin’s Grizzly Invite.

Swegman, a junior from Hauser, ran 24 minutes, 30.63 seconds for 6,000 meters (3.8 miles).

Colin Kistler, a freshman from Hauser, finished 111th in 27:55.13 for 8,000 meters (5 miles) to help lead the Hanover men to a 13th-place team finish. He was the Panthers’ No. 2 runner.

Tong runs for Red Wolves

MARION — Akot Tong finished 115th to help IU East to a fourth-place team finish in Friday’s Indiana Wesleyan Twilight.
