Leaders of local veterans organizations and the mayor of Columbus joined together on the steps of City Hall for POW/MIA Recognition Day. The event included a speech from Thom Jester from the local Veterans of Foreign Wars 1987, and a prayer from VFW Chaplain Mike Childress.

The seventh annual Chautauqua of the Arts festival was held at Mill Race Park, where artwork on display and for sale included acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings, baskets, clay, glass, jewelry, photography, sculptures and woodwork.
1974
A bronze memorial of Quintin G. Noblitt, who donated the Columbus Youth Camp to the Foundation for Youth in 1935, was unveiled to friends of the Noblitt family at the youth camp. The sculpture of Noblitt stood near the entrance to the camp west of Columbus.
