Robert F. “Bob” Melton, 80, of Brown County, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2015. He was born August 30, 1934, in Cumberland County, Kentucky, the son of the late Barlow Melton and Clara Belle Daniel Mozingo.
Bob retired from Cummins Inc. He was on the Van Buren Township Advisory Board, had been a Brown County Deputy Sheriff and was on the Sheriff’s Merit Board. Bob was a charter member of the Van Buren Fire Department Board of Directors, served on the Brown County School Board, and was a Democratic committeeman for Van Buren Precinct. He was past chairman of the Democratic Party in Brown County. He served two terms as Brown County Auditor and was on the Board of Directors of Brown County Water Utility.
He was a lifetime member of the Indiana Trail Riders Association and a member of Hoosier Back Country Horseman.
Bob enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, fishing, cutting wood with his buddy Dan Johnson, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 25 years, Annabelle Melton; his two sons, James Melton and his wife Lisa and Brad Birdsong and his wife Sandi; his two daughters, Barbara Melton and Amy Ernstes and her husband Chris; two brothers, Harold Eugene Melton and his wife Linda and Carl Melton; a sister, Ruth Poindexter; 15 grandchildren, with one on the way; and several great-grandchildren.
At Bob’s request, he is to be cremated and there will be no services.
