Bull Dogs pick up another tennis victory

Columbus North won its third girls tennis match in as many days Thursday, rolling to a 5-0 Conference Indiana victory against Franklin Central.

The 17th-ranked Bull Dogs (10-4) won all five matches in straight sets. That included Brooke Richardson and Yijiang Zhao’s 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles.

North’s Aubrey Smith won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Paige Littrell rolled 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Rosemary Yonushonis prevailed 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Meagan Olibo and Madelyn Sanders triumphed 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Woodmen edge Olympians

GREENWOOD — Megan Galle made her season debut and cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles, but Columbus East suffered a 3-2 loss at Greenwood.

AJ Pollert won by forfeit at No. 2 singles for the other victory for the Olympians (1-10). Adycin Rager fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Kate Fox and Paige Webb lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, and Megan Newton and Carol Travis fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Eagles blank Patriots

SPENCER — Brown County won all five matches in straight sets to post a 5-0 Western Indiana Conference victory at Owen Valley.

Mary Kate McCann won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Elisabeth Huls prevailed 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Ashley Pugh triumphed 7-6 (0), 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Sarah Kurdziel and Hallee Miller rolled 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Corina Greiner and Jacey Ferguson won 7-6 (4), 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers down Royals

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh swept the singles matches and posted a shutout at No. 1 doubles in a 4-1 Mid-Hoosier Conference win against Eastern Hancock.

Vanessa Hoskins won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, Lillie Parmer rolled Grace Perkins 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Natalie Shoemaker triumphed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, and Ashlyn Streeval and Allie Schooler rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles for the Lancers (4-4, 3-2). Emma Westerfeld and Meghan Collett fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Bull Dogs fall to Falcons

INDIANAPOLIS — Perry Meridian struck for four runs in both the second and fourth innings to cruise past visiting Columbus North 9-4.

Tommi Stowers had a single and double, scored twice and had an RBI for the Bull Dogs (1-10). Kelsay Lucas had a single, double and an RBI.

Panthers stop Olympians

BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington South took advantage of seven Columbus East errors to post an 11-5 victory.

Pitcher Hayley Smalley went 2 for 4 for the Olympians (2-11). Kendra Pastrick had two RBIs.

Panthers pound Bulldogs

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County smacked five home runs en route to a 13-6 win against New Albany.

Baylee Krueger went 3 for 4 with a double, two home runs and five RBIs for the Panthers (12-4). Her grand slam in the bottom of the first erased a 3-0 deficit.

Sidney Gerkin went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Kyndyl Olds went 3 for 4. Mackenzie Byram went 2 for 3 with a home run, Hannah Castor went 2 for 4 and Tesla Kopitzke added a two-run homer.

Emily Tevalut came on in relief in the first and went the rest of the way to earn her first varsity win.

Chargers run-rule Cougars

GREENSBURG — North Decatur scored 11 times in the first three innings Tuesday and went on to hand South Decatur a 14-2, five-inning MHC loss.

Brittany Koors had a double for the Cougars (1-8, 0-4), who were victimized by seven errors.

Jets blank Twisters

OLDENBURG — Dalton McKinney tossed a five-hitter to lead Hauser to a 3-0 victory over host Oldenburg Academy.

The Jets, who raised their record to 7-5, managed just enough offense.

In the second, Sam Meek walked and eventually scored on an error to give Hauser a 1-0 lead. In the top of the seventh, Will Rose drove home Bailey with a single and Nathan Branum knocked in Rory Thayer for the two insurance runs. Bailey had single and Thayer reached on his second double.

Eagles hold off Lancers

NASHVILLE — Edinburgh scored eight times in the top of the first and then held on for a 12-10 win at Brown County.

The Eagles (2-6) were victimized by seven errors. Zach Murphy picked up the win for the Lancers (4-9).

BOYS GOLF

Crusaders win tri match

Columbus Christian finished with a 210 to win a tri match at Clifty Creek. Bloomington Lighthouse took second with a 216, and Fortune Academy shot 268.

Nick Bridgewater won medalist honors with a 44. Austin Straub carded a 49, while Chris Noblitt added a 58, Andrew Foster shot 59, Ryan Robinson had a 60, Judah Haynes carded a 66 and Josh Felde had a 72.

Lancers down Cougars

GREENWOOD — Edinburgh put four players in the 40s in picking up a 187-206 win against Greenwood Christian Academy at Bluff Creek.

Leon Kemper led the Lancers with a 42. Zach Pendleton and Connor Goddard each shot 48, while Jacob Riddle added a 49 and Adam Barker, Rayce Holland and Kyle Pendleton all shot 57.

Eagles fall to Spartans

FRANKLIN — Brown County had its second-best team score of the season, but fell to Southwestern (Shelby) 165-173 Cypress Run.

Aubrey Seaman led the Eagles with a 39. Matt Wright carded a 42, while Gavin Brown added a 45, Jake Dixon shot 47, Wes Weigel had a 55, Dawson Dunnuck carded a 58, Joe Lucas shot 62 and Jacob Ford had a 67.
