The Donner Swim Club had its busiest weekend of the summer at the Speedo Junior National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, at the USA Swimming Futures Championships in West Lafayette, at the Missouri Valley Central Zones Championships in Topeka, Kansas and the Central East Summer Divisional Championships at Columbus North High School.
Grace Haskett represented Donner at Junior Nationals, swimming the 100-meter backstroke and the 50-meter free. Marah Bieger was Donner’s swimmer at the Future Champions meet swimming the 200-meter IM, the 200-meter breaststroke and the 100-meter breaststroke.
Four Donner swimmers were part of Team Indiana at the Zones Championships. Nalanie Cortez, Brady Beyer, Daniel Utterback and Rachel Sabotin each swam multiple events. Team Indiana finished third in the meet.
Top-eight finishers were Nalanie Cortez, seventh in the 10-and-under 100-meter freestyle as well as swimming a leg of the third-place 200-meter freestyle relay; and Brady Beyer, who finished eighth in the 10-and-under 100 breaststroke.
Rachel Sabotin had an outstanding meet, winning the 400 freestyle, the 800 freestyle and the 1,500 freestyle. She finished third in the 400 IM, second in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 200 IM. She capped off her weekend by earning the high point award for 13-14 girls.
Donner swimmers stood out at the Summer Divisional Championships.
Misha Machavariani won the 200-yard IM and was fourth in the 100-yard free, seventh in the 50-yard breaststroke, fourth in the 200-yard freestyle, third in the 50-yard butterfly and sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.
Sydney Morlok won the 100 fly, was second in the 50 butterfly, the 100 backstroke and the 50 freestyle, and was sixth in the 50 backstroke.
Liam Phillips won the 50 freestyle, was second in the 100 breaststroke and the 50 butterfly, was fourth in the 50 backstroke and was fifth in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle.
Other top-eight finishers for Donner 10-and-unders were Karissa Bevis, who finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle and eighth in the 100-yard backstroke, and Samantha Hoovler, who placed third in the 50-yard breaststroke and second in the 100-yard breast.
For the 11-12 age group, Albert Nusawardhana won the 100 breaststroke, the 50 freestyle, the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle, was fifth in the 100 freestyle and seventh in the 100 backstroke
Blake Day placed seventh in the 50 backstroke and 200 freestyle. Riddhi Garg placed fifth in the 100 freestyle, fourth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle.
Maggie Johnson placed fifth in the 200 IM, sixth in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 100 butterfly. Eamon Ma placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 50 breaststroke. Aidan McAlister placed second in the 500 freestyle, third in the 50 backstroke, seventh in the 100 freestyle, third in the 200 freestyle, third in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 50 freestyle. Jessica Zhang also swam for Donner.
For the 11-12 relays, the boys freestyle relay of Albert Nusawardhana, Eamon Ma, Blake Day and Aidan McAlister finished first; and the girls freestyle relay of Maggie Johnson, Adeline Rush, Ellie Proffitt and Riddhi Garg finished seventh.
For the 13-14-year-olds, Olivia Morlok won the 100 freestyle and the 200 IM, and was second in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Ayush Panda triumphed in the 200 IM, was second in the 200 freestyle, third in the 50 freestyle, and fourth in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle.
Evan Patterson won the 50 freestyle and was fourth in the 200 freestyle and eighth in the 200 IM.
Nicholas Green placed second in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle, and third in the 100 breaststroke and 200 backstroke. Rachel Gutman placed eighth in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 400 IM. Paxton Rush placed fourth in the 400 IM.
Lily Dozier and Jared Greene also swam in the meet for Donner.
The 13-14 boy’s 200 freestyle relay of Bryce Eckelman, Evan Patterson, Nicholas Green and Ayush Panda finished second; and the girl’s relay team of Erica Samuel, Rachel Gutman, Abbey Landini and Olivia Morlok finished third.
The 13-14 boys medley of Ayush Panda, Nicholas Green, Bryce Eckelman and Evan Patterson placed second; and the girls medley relay of Erica Samuel, Rachel Gutman, Olivia Morlok and Lily Dozier placed seventh.
For the 15-and-over boys, Paco Cena Zavala finished seventh in the 100 backstroke.
