‘Steps Through Time’ at library

Step back in time at the Bartholomew County Public Library from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

“Steps Through Time” will be displayed throughout the Bartholomew County Public Library, indoors and out on the Plaza. It consists of hands-on history and exhibits from local collectors and organizations not normally seen by the public.

Among collections included: Clessie Cummins’ 1936 Diesel Cadillac, Columbus Racing History, Aerial Maps showing the growth of Columbus from 1937 to 2014 and Orinoco Furniture.

Does anyone remember the Ottaway Pump-It Train from the Columbus Drive-In? This is a ’50s vintage ride that is self-propelled around a track by the pumping action of a “T” bar mounted in the middle of each handcar.

See Columbus history on yardsticks, a working Reeves Gas Engine and Cummins “Thermoil” engine operating a corn grinder and water pump. Try your hand at shelling corn or climb aboard the 1937 Stutz Cummins Diesel Fire Engine.

Go to school in a one-room schoolhouse, search for long-lost relatives, learn about Hope and the rich architectural history of Columbus.

See if you can find all the items on the scavenger hunt and be entered into a drawing for a Zaharako’s gift certificate. We’ll also be giving away Duncan yo-yos. Whether you’re new to Bartholomew County or just enjoy learning new things about your community, there is a lot to see and do. Enjoy the music of Dale Sechrest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sign up to win Zahakarako’s gift certificates and Duncan Yo-yos. Complete the scavenger hunt and be entered into a prize drawing.
