Edward “Shorty” Davis was born Feb. 4, 1937, to Ben and Elaine Davis in Lauderdale County, Alabama. He passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones at his home.
Ed married Bonnie Neal Davis in December 1979. She survives.
Other survivors include son, Ricky Edward (Geneva) Davis; daughters, Janice Davis, Susan (Clifford) Napier, Brenda Briddle, and Lisa (Kenny) Smith; grandchildren, Christopher Davis, Bradley Davis, Kenzi Smith, and Derek Edward Davis; three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; three brothers; three sisters; and his special canine companion, Jessie.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Barbara and Mary Ann Davis, three brothers; one sister; and his four-`legged friend, Rusty.
Ed was an extremely hardworking man. He retired in 1998 from Milestone after 40 years in the IUOE Local 181. After retirement, he moved to Center Hill, Alabama, where he enjoyed working outside, spending time in his garden and caring for his animals.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Loretto Memorial Chapel Inc. in Loretto, Tennessee. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Center Hill Church of Christ with Greg Dial will be officiating. Burial will follow in Center Hill Cemetery. Mr. Davis will lie in state from noon to 1:00 Thursday at the church.
