Columbus’ Leslie Campbell figured she was a winner simply by finishing the 13.1-mile portion of Saturday’s Mill Race Marathon.
She was just a bit incorrect.
As the Johnson-Witkemper Insurance Finish On Fourth neared its end, she was selected as the winner of a Ram 2500 Cummins diesel-powered truck provided by Columbus’ Bob Poynter Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Hyundai.
The Brown County native was so overcome with emotion when her name was announced that she cried all the way to the stage of the event, and said she preferred the black truck model.
She signed up for the race only last week, after intending to do it for some time.
She mentioned that she had never won anything in her life.
Then she laughed about her luck.
“Maybe I should buy a (lottery) ticket,” she said.
