Dallas R. Harris

Brown County

Dallas Richard Harris, 69, died Sunday, October 4, 2015, at his home in Brown County after a lengthy illness.

He was born December 16, 1945, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Lois Heath Harris and Emma Viola Allen Harris. He married Georgia Sutton in Loogootee, Indiana, on November 18, 1967.

He was a 1964 graduate of Alfordsville High School, a 1965 graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville, Tennessee, and attended Ivy Tech Community College. He was hired by Cummins Inc. in 1965 and retired in 1996 after 31 years of service.

Motorcycle riding was a passion until a tree-cutting accident in October 1996 left him partially paralyzed. He also loved camping, hiking, and backpacking. In his spare time he could be found in the garage tearing down and rebuilding anything mechanical. One of his greatest pleasures was designing and building our log home, doing a lot of the work himself.

He was a member of Nashville United Methodist Church and Brown County Lions Club and was a former member of the BMW Motorcycle Owners Club and BMW Riders Club.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Georgia; two sons, Adam Harris (Stephanie Hagemeyer Harris) of Bloomington and John Harris (Mary Katherine Means) of Brown County; one grandson, Daxton Harris of Bloomington; and two nieces, Vickie Harris Hasenour of Louisville, Kentucky, and Deneen Harris Bender of Huntingburg, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lois; his mother, Emma; and one brother, Bobby.

Friends may visit the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Nashville United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2015,  also at Nashville United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.
