Stuart A. Kirts, 58, formerly of Columbus, passed away at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, on October 19, 2015. Stuart was born July 13, 1957, the son of Raymond Kirts and Alice Mounts, who predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa; his son, Daniel; stepson, Christopher Hamm; stepdaughter, Melissa Pierce; two sisters, Sharon Kirts (Lee) Thompson and Shirley Kirts; and brothers, Steve Kirts and Stan (Paula) Kirts.
Stuart enlisted in the Navy and retired after 20 years of service as an electronics technician aboard aircraft carriers at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He attended Columbus North High School and later earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
After retiring from the Navy, Stuart worked 17 years for and retired from the Department of Corrections in Florida in 2013.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
Memorial donations in Stuart’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the donor’s choice of nonprofit organizations.
