Annex building coming down — just not yet

Yes, demolition of the 87-year-old Bartholomew County Annex building is going forward — just not as quickly as planned.

Fencing has been put up around the property, but a subcontractor likely won’t be available to remove asbestos from the building until after the Thanksgiving Day weekend, project consultant Charlie Day of DLZ Indiana Inc. said.

The annex was originally planned to come down in October, but county officials aren’t concerned about the delay. The only plan for the land near the corner of State and Mapleton streets right now is to create a vacant lot that could be sold at a later date.
