Billie Joe Beatty, 80, of Scottsburg, died Nov. 21, 2015, at The Waters of Scottsburg.

Billie Joe was born March 5, 1935, in Bartholomew County, the son of William Ray and Vivian Marie Phegley Beatty. He married Audrey J. Howard June 2, 1956.

Billie Joe lived his entire life in Bartholomew County and attended Columbus High School. After school, he worked for Ben Gates Service Station, Pure Oil Station and Don Fonner, Tatlock Gulf and John Arrington. He was employed at Lewellen Manufacturing from 1973 until the plant closed in 1985. He did part-time work through DSI and the city of Columbus as a school crossing guard. He also worked at Kroger. He enjoyed people and was a NASCAR fan.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Wes Jones officiating. Calling will be from 12:30 until time of service Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home to help with final expenses.

Survivors include a son, Dwight A. Beatty; a daughter, Teresa J. Ross; grandchildren, Waylon L. Beatty, Dwight Alan Beatty Jr., Jennifer Anne Ross, Jeremiah Keith Ross and Jacob Douglas Ross; step-grandchild, Ashley Burton; great-grandchildren, Amberli Jenkins, Connor Beatty, Hunter Ross, Mya Ross, Jaxon Ison Ross and Jordyn Beatty;  and step-great-grandchildren, Austin and Caleb Whittington.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, and a sister, Helen Whittington.

Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
