Panthers, Olympians take top two spots in Duals

JEFFERSONVILLE — The Jennings County wrestlers downed Columbus East 37-28 Saturday in the match that decided the Hoosier Hills Conference Duals championship.

The Panthers beat New Albany 45-25 and Floyd Central 47-21 on Friday. Then Saturday, Jennings downed Bedford North Lawrence 72-12, Jeffersonville 48-26, Evansville Memorial 44-15, East and Madison 76-3.

Andrew Herrin (152), Cole Chandler (160), Peyton Shepherd (182) and Brendan Sutton (285) all went 7-0. Dalton Craig (120), Nick South (126), Brooks Wathen (138), Zane Beineke (145), Christian Redmond (195) all went 6-1, and Victor Antunez (113) went 5-2.

The Olympians, who did not wrestle Friday, went 4-1 Saturday, beating Evansville Memorial 50-13, Floyd Central 44-25 and Jeffersonville 42-27. Following the loss to Jennings, East finished with a 55-21 victory against New Albany.

Cayden Rooks (106), Jake Schoenegge (113), Graham Rooks (120) and Dawson Combest (126) all went 5-0 for the Olympians. Jake Martindale (138) and Coy Park (182) and Sean Galligar (285) all went 4-1, and Austin Wilson (160) went 3-1.

Bull Dogs drop four

BLOOMINGTON — Columbus North went 0-4 in Saturday’s Bloomington South Invitational, falling to Center Grove 65-12, Bloomington North 45-28, Bloomington South 45-21 and Martinsville 43-36.

Curtis Collins went 4-0 at 132 to lead the Bull Dogs. Brigham Kleinhenz (160), Josh Larson (182) and Cortez Bandy (195) all went 2-2.

North boys top Trojans

The Columbus North swimmers split with Center Grove Saturday, with the Bull Frog boys winning 118-67 and the girls falling 110-74.

Adam Zhuang led the boys with wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 10.44 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.64). Kaemon Jiles took the diving competition (285.10), Angel Torres Martinez captured the 100 butterfly (56.06), Chase McQueen won the 100 freestyle (48.66), Jared Carroll took the 100 backstroke (59.31) and North swept the 200 medley (1:50.99), 300 freestyle (1:31.19) and 400 freestyle (3:26.98) relays.

For the girls, Mackenzie Fry won the 100 butterfly (1:00.46), Kaitlyn Niebrugge took the 500 freestyle (5:39.45) and Alex Nusawardhana captured the 100 backstroke (1:01.27). The Bull Frogs also won the 200 medley (1:53.83) and 400 freestyle (3:43.02) relays.

Crusaders best Hilltoppers

Columbus Christian picked up its sixth consecutive win, a 63-53 victory against IHSAA member Madison Shawe.

Adriane Polley led the Crusaders (7-1) with 19 points. Lain Isley scored 15, and Payton Ingram added 11.

Lancers notch first win

WALDRON — Edinburgh picked up its first win of the season Saturday, a 70-60 Mid-Hoosier Conference victory at Waldron.

Kyle Pendleton scored 29 points, and Bobby Simpson added 20 to lead the Lancers (1-3, 1-1), who led 36-21 at halftime. Christian Cox had 11 points.

Dragons down Panthers

SELLERSBURG — Jennings County led Class 3A No. 6 Silver Creek 37-35 at halftime Saturday, but the Dragons rallied for a 67-62 win.

Tyler Vogel led the Panthers (0-2) with 25 points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Nick AmRhein added 12 points and six assists, and Justin Pettit had 10 points.

Panthers fall to Trojans

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County led 16-11 after one quarter Saturday afternoon, but East Central rallied for a 64-50 victory.

Sidney Gerkin led the Panthers (5-4) with 18 points. Shelbi Wright added 10.

Jets hold off Saints

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Lutheran cut a 16-point first-half Hauser lead to two in the fourth quarter Friday night, but the Jets made 8 of 10 free throws in the final period to hold on for a 57-52 win.

Paige Miller led Hauser (4-3) with 24 points. Leslie Sims added 10 points, five assists and five steals.
