Mary Ellen Hughes, 59, of Columbus, died at 1:02 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015, at her home.
Mary was born August 24, 1956, in Greensburg, the daughter of Don D. and Nancy Alberta Mathews Hughes.
She was an active person all of her life, enjoying family, friends, travel and her career. She recently retired from Developmental Services Inc. after 38 years of service and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Serving people was in Mary’s blood as she volunteered many hours with organizations dear to her heart, as well was providing services to people with disabilities.
Mary was a giving person who left her imprint on many peoples lives.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2015, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Malvin McCullough officiating. Calling will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Monday. Burial will be at Union Flat Rock Cemetery in Ripley County.
Memorial contributions may be made to Developmental Services Inc. in her memory through the funeral home.
Survivors include her parents, Don and Nancy Hughes of Columbus; brothers, Tim Hughes of Columbus and John Hughes of Texas; and sisters, Georgette Parks and Carolyn Sue Smith.
She was preceded in death by her baby brother, Michael, and a sister, Helen Ruth Hughes.
