If you plan to nestle in for a quiet New Year’s Eve and are looking for a way to spend your New Year’s Day, allow me to suggest the Christmas Bird Count at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, which is 7:30 a.m. Friday. Participants will meet at the refuge, 12985 U.S. 50E, Seymour, to form groups and be assigned areas. The annual bird inventory will last all day, but staying the whole time is not required. Participants should bring binoculars, warm clothing and waterproof footwear as trails probably will be wet. A free hot lunch will be provided by Muscatatuck Wildlife Society volunteers.
