North boys down Cougars

The Columbus North boys and girls swimmers were in action for the first time in nearly a month Thursday night, and split a dual meet with Bloomington North.

The Bull Frogs won the boys meet 120-68. The Cougars took the girls meet 107-79.

Angel Torres Martinez led the Columbus North boys with wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 7.26 seconds) and 100 backstroke (59.80). Other individual winners for the Bull Frogs were Jared Imlay in the 200 freestyle (1:53.08), Kaemon Jiles in the diving competition (299.15), Chase McQueen in the 100 butterfly (54.64) and Sam Russell in the 500 freestyle (5:09.70).

Columbus North also swept the 200 medley (1:47.86), 200 freestyle (1:35.36) and 400 freestyle (3:32.70) relays.

For the girls, Mackenzie Fry won the 200 freestyle (2:03.45) and 100 butterfly (1:00.77) and Kaitlyn Niebrugge took the 200 IM (2:23.98) and 500 freestyle (5:39.59). Darby Coles captured the 100 freestyle (55.21), Alex Nusawardhana won the 100 backstroke (1:01.11) and the Bull Frogs took the 200 medley (1:55.51) and 400 freestyle (3:50.54) relays.

Stars sweep Olympians

BEDFORD — Bedford North Lawrence swept Columbus East 102-81 in the boys meet and 105-74 in the girls meet.

Derek Alexander led the Olympian boys with wins in the 200 IM (2:27.87) and 100 butterfly (1:04.55). Cordell glass won the diving (255.95), Austin Smith took the 100 freestyle (54.29) and East captured the 400 freestyle relay (3:51.88).

For the East girls, Cortney VanLiew won the 200 IM (2:26.32) and 100 butterfly (1:03.11). Raegan Bradley took the 200 freestyle (2:17.09), Brooke Statler captured the 50 freestyle (27.40), Julie Connor won the diving (138.85) and the Olympians took the 200 freestyle (1:50.89) and 400 freestyle (4:05.95) relays.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Crusaders prevail

Columbus Christian jumped out to a 20-12 lead after one quarter and went on to hand Indiana Deaf a 63-47 loss.

Logan Roth led the Crusaders (15-3) with 26 points. Lain Isley added 17 points, and Payton Ingram had 11.

WRESTLING

Panthers down Knights

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County pulled out a 40-34 win Wednesday against a South Dearborn team that had finished eighth in the IHSWCA Team Duals on Saturday. The Panthers tied for 11th in that event.

Andrew Herrin (152), Cole Chandler (160), Brendan Sutton (285), Dalton Craig (126) and Brooks Wathen (138) all won by pin for Jennings. Christian Redmond (195) won by forfeit and Nick South (132) won by major decision.
