East sweeps Madison

MADISON — The Columbus East boys swimmers picked up their first win of the season with a 101-69 win at Madison, and the Olympian girls made it a sweep with a 117-55 victory.

Chris Borowski won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 4.79 seconds) and 500 freestyle (5:36.55) and Austin Smith took the 50 freestyle (24.85) and 100 freestyle (55.54) to lead the boys. Cordell Glass won the diving competition (231.50), Derek Alexander took the 100 butterfly (1:03.10) and East captured the 400 freestyle relay (3:57.94).

“The boys had a great meet,” East boys coach Dave Fribley said. “Almost every swim was a (personal record), which they seem to be doing meet after meet.”

Raegan Bradley won the 200 individual medley (2:36.86) and 500 freestyle (6:16.80), and Cortney VanLiew took the 50 freestyle (25.42) and 100 butterfly (1:03.21) to lead the girls. Brooke Statler won the 200 freestyle (2:20.11), Julie Connor took the diving (147.0), Lizzy Frazier captured the 100 backstroke (1:13.51), Quinn Phillips won the 100 breaststroke (1:31.23) and the Olympians took the 200 freestyle (1:52.32) and 400 freestyle (4:09.36) relays.

POSTPONEMENTS

Contests rescheduled

The Columbus East girls basketball game at Bedford North Lawrence was postponed and rescheduled for Tuesday.

Jennings County’s wrestling meet with Whiteland was posptoned to Thursday.

Hauser’s girls basketball game with Oldenburg Academy was also postponed. It is uncertain if that game will be rescheduled.
