Columbus

Evelyn Clair Moser of Columbus, Indiana, was delivered by her Lord to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 10, 2016, just three hours before her 96th birthday. She was born on January 11, 1920, in Aurora, Illinois, daughter of Gus and Clara Thom.

She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her dear husband, Paul; and her beloved younger sister, Ruth.

She lived for 93 years in Aurora, graduating from East Aurora High School and marrying Paul W. Moser in 1941. She was office manager for Aurora Dry Goods Department Store. Later, she became office manager for the Aurora Election Commission in City Hall and retired in 1980 as the Chief Bookkeeper for the Aurora Township Office. She was active in church activities at St. Paul and Emmanuel Lutheran Churches in Aurora, singing in the choir, leading the ladies group and serving on the Altar Guild.

Evelyn and Paul had one daughter, Claudia (Jerry) Castleman of Columbus. She had two grandchildren, David (Lora) Castleman of Webster Groves, Missouri and Krista (Todd) Riordan of Columbus. She is also survived by her niece, Andrea Numrich; and nephews, Jim and Tim Platt.

In her retirement, Evelyn and Paul enjoyed traveling, until his death in 1986. In the following years she enjoyed traveling, lunches with her friends and spending time with her family including her six great-grandchildren, Joe, Ella, and Paul from Webster Groves and Drew, Kate and Grace from Columbus. She was always happy when she could be with her family.

She began a new phase of her life when she moved to Columbus in 2012 to be closer to some of her family members.

Visitation will be at 6:30 p.m at Faith Lutheran Church, 6000 W. SR 46 in Columbus on Friday, January 15, prior to her Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. This service will be conducted by her grandson-in-law Rev. Todd Riordan. Her Graveside Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 (Paul’s Birthday)  by her son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Jerry Castleman at Lincoln Memorial Cemetary in Aurora. Friends and family are invited for food and conversation to celebrate Evelyn’s life at 3 p.m. at Alden Gardens of Waterford, 1955 Randi Drive in Aurora.
