Nancy Ellen Beatty

Nancy Ellen Beatty, 65, of Indianapolis, Indiana, lived loudly and passed quietly at home on Friday, January 15, 2016, from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanne and Jack Beatty; and a foster daughter, April Shirley.

She is survived by siblings, Jack Beatty (Carrie Henderson) and Susan Bell; her husband of 37 years, Greg Miller; children, Brady Miller (Mallory Main), Ellen Miller and Kate Miller; grandchildren, Ryan Foster, Kelsey Foster and Beau Atkinson; and her many foster children.

Nancy was born May 15, 1950, in Columbus, Indiana, where she was raised through her junior year at Columbus High School. She graduated from North Central High School in 1968. A Pi Phi at Purdue, she obtained her BS in 1972 before going on to earn two PHDs and becoming a member of the bar association. She found her life’s work at Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), first as a special ed teacher and ultimately as a kindergarten administrator for 30 years.

A tireless advocate for the disadvantaged children, disabled and elderly of Indianapolis, may she rest in peace.

Funeral visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, with service to follow at 1 p.m., at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road in Indianapolis.
