Additional information was received after a news story about the death of Jesse King of Columbus was published Jan. 26 in The Republic.

King’s aunt reported that family members had been looking for him for two weeks and were “grievously concerned.” She said a friend of King’s returned a message the night of Jan. 24 and told them where King had planned to go to chop wood in Brown County. He told the family that he had not gone with him.

Police had done an initial search that night but opted to return in daylight. The report said King was found the morning of Jan. 25 under a tree top, which he had been cutting. He also was in the snow and was wearing dark clothing, which made him difficult to see.

The first Brown County missing person report was incorrectly dated Jan. 23. A second report, received after the story was published, was dated Jan. 24, which the sheriff’s log confirms is when the missing person report was received.
