2 arrested on drug charges

Columbus Police Department officers arrested a driver and passenger on warrants and drug violations after a traffic stop near 25th Street and Beam Road.

The driver, Samantha L. Banks, 41, 2806 22nd St., Columbus, was arrested on a Bartholomew County warrant, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug injection device, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus police spokesman.

A passenger, Charles W. Sherfick, 44, 2676 Rosedale Drive, Columbus, was arrested on a Marion County arrest warrant, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a legend drug injection device, Harris said.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, Columbus Police Officer Frank Dickman stopped the vehicle for a seatbelt violation, Harris said.

Dickman noted Sherfick appeared to be under the influence of methamphetamine, Harris said. After confirming there were warrants for Sherfick and Banks, officers searched the vehicle and located a bag next to Sherfick which contained razor blades, syringes and methamphetamine, Harris said.

Inside Banks’ purse, officers found syringes, drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine and medications that were not prescribed to her, Harris said.

Sherfick is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail with no bond, jail officials said.

Banks is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $80,000 bond.
