Traffic stop ends with man’s arrest on drug charges

A Columbus man was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and possession of a legend drug injection device after a traffic stop.

Anton L. Thompson, 26, 1924 N. Cherry St., was released in lieu of $15,000 bail from the Bartholomew County Jail, jail officials said.

Columbus police C.O.P.S. Officer Troy Love stopped Thompson at about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday for failing to signal a turn on Kentucky Avenue, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus police spokesman.

During the traffic stop, Officer Branch Schrader said his K-9 partner Argo alerted police to the odor of narcotics in the vehicle, Harris said. Love located the cocaine in one of Thompson’s pants pockets, Harris said.
