MALE

Jaylen Flemmons, Columbus North sophomore basketball player

Flemmons scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds Friday in the Bull Dogs’ 55-52 overtime loss to Shelbyville in the sectional semifinals. In the sectional opener, he had a game-high 18 points in a 59-50 win against Columbus East.

His performance last week:

“It was good scoring-wise, but overall, I felt like I could have done a lot better because I did miss a lot of shots, and my defense wasn’t as good (Friday) as it was against (East’s) Parker (Chitty).”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“I just make sure that two days before a game, I have pasta for dinner, and the day of the game, I drink electrolyte water so I don’t cramp up.”

“Probably California because I’ve heard there’s a lot of stuff there, and there’s beaches and nice weather.”

FEMALE

Claire Thompson, Columbus North sophomore gymnast

Thompson finished second on the beam, fifth on the vault and bars and sixth on the floor to place third in the all-around with a 37.625 and lead the Bull Dogs to the Columbus East Regional title.

Her performance last week:

“I feel like I kind of got the nerves out at sectional, and we did a lot better (at regional).”

Do you do anything special to prepare?

“We just go over our routines, and if we had mistakes after one meet, we’ll work on those and make sure we get those out of the way and fixed.”

“Usually, I just stick with water all the time”
