I’ve always appreciated the folk-pop tunes of Bloomington artist Carrie Newcomer for her literate, lyrical quality, and since I saw her sing at Columbus’ Mill Race Park the superbly lighthearted tune, “Don’t Push Send,” about mistaken emailing, I appreciate her humor. Newcomer joins scientist Jill Bolte Taylor, author of “My Stroke of Genius,” for an evening of science and song at 7:30 p.m. March 19 at Brown County Playhouse, 70 S. Van Buren St. in Nashville. Tickets are $27.50. Information: 812-988-6555 or browncountyplayhouse.org.

Polly Verbanic’s free Story Time has been popular enough to occasionally attract as many as 25 youngsters from toddlers through third-graders to hear her call upon imagination to find a seat amid her audiences at Columbus’ Viewpoint Books, 548 Washington St. Her next session will be at 10 a.m. March 16 — a perfect spring break activity for those seeking an intellectual nudge for their child or grandchild.
