Knife fight leads to arrest of Columbus man

Columbus police arrested a local man after he was accused of intervening in an argument between a man and his wife while holding a knife.

David B. Defibaugh, 48, 630 11th St., was arrested on a charge of battery with a deadly weapon, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers responded to a report of a fight in the 600 block of Chestnut Street at about 5 p.m. Friday where they found a victim who was bleeding from the head and right hand.

The victim told police he and his wife were in an argument and Defibaugh intervened while holding a knife, Harris said. The victim told police he was cut on his hand and later kicked in the head several times after he fell. The victim was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment.

Defibaugh was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $15,000 bond, jail officials said.
