City woman arrested on driving while intoxicated charge

Bartholomew County sheriff’s deputies arrested a local woman for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated — endangerment after her vehicle was involved in an accident.

Julia Sorokin, 44, 3464 Fieldstone Drive, was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail after her arrest at about 8:35 p.m. Sunday, and was later released after posting $5,000 bond, jail officials said.

Sheriff’s deputy Andrew Densford was sent to the accident scene at County Road North 500E and North Rogers Street in Petersville, where he found a Jeep Wrangler on its passenger side, deputies said.

The Jeep, driven by Sorokin, was traveling north on County Road 500E when her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a Pontiac driven by a 25-year-old man from North Vernon who deputies did not identify, sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies detected an odor of alcohol on Sorokin and arrested her, deputies said.

Sorokin had three passengers in the Jeep, an adult and two children, deputies said. The adult passenger, who was not identified, was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and the North Vernon man also was checked at the hospital, deputies said.
