BASEBALL

Olympians top Shamrocks

WESTFIELD — Columbus East scored six times in the seventh inning Tuesday to break open a close game and pull away for a 9-3 win at Westfield.

Kyle Weiss went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Olympians (6-1). Joey Back went 2 for 4, and Josh Major went 2 for 5.

Julian Greenwell picked up the win in relief of Drew Hasson.

Braves blank Lancers

EDINBURGH — Edinburgh was held to one hit in a 6-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference loss to Indian Creek.

Jentry Lange had a double for the only hit for the Lancers (1-3, 0-1).

TRACK AND FIELD

East sweeps tri meet

SHELBYVILLE — The Columbus East boys and girls swept a tri meet at Shelbyville.

The Olympian boys scored 76 points to 57 for Shelbyville and 33 for Southwestern (Shelby). The East girls scored 82 points to 71 for the Golden Bears and 12 for the Spartans.

Rhett Myers won the shot put and discus to lead the boys. T.C. O’Neal took the high jump, Steven O’Neal captured the 200 and both ran on the winning 4×400 relay team.

The girls got wins from Beyoncey Coleman-Turner in the discus (99 feet, 5 inches), Maddie Lyons in the 1,600 (5 minutes, 52.6 seconds), Katie Emmert in the 300 hurdles (52.9) and Cortney VanLiew in the 200 (27.9). The Olympians also took the 4×800 (11:00.4) and 4×400 (4:34.0) relays.

GIRLS TENNIS

East opens with win

After being rained out of its first three scheduled matches of the season, Columbus East opened with a 4-1 win against Shelbyville.

Megna Chari beat Bre Ayres 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Adycin Rager downed Danielle Joseph 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and AJ Pollert topped Elizabeth Sinkel 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Esta Morrison and Paige Webb beat Sam Watson and Makayla Schacht 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Kendall Gerkin and Carol Travis fell to Cassidy Skipton and Olivia Chenoweth 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Eagles edge Braves

TRAFALGAR — Brown County won three matches in straight sets to pull out a 3-2 win at Indian Creek.

Elisabeth Huls beat McKayla Russell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Ashley Pugh downed Sydney Johnson 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Baelyn Koester and Kiera Omberg topped Makenzie Hunter and Mya Piccione 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Hailee Miller fell to Kaite Burkman 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Sarah Barrick and Jacey Ferguson lost to Baylee Wilson and Sara Knight 7-6 (9), 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

SOFTBALL

East falls to Franklin

FRANKLIN — Franklin pounded out 13 hits in an 8-2 win at Columbus East.

Elyse Babb went 2 for 3 to record half of the hits for the Olympians (2-3).

BOYS LACROSSE

Cougars edge Bull Dogs

Columbus North came up just short in an 8-7 loss to Bloomington North.

Sawyer Lewis scored two goals for the Bull Dogs (2-1). Tyler Wang, Davis Kessler, Dalton Carpenter, Ian Hussey and Wyatt Barkes all had one goal.

Jacob Elliott, Lewis and Barkes recorded assists. Ricky Rowing posted 16 saves.
