Meth lab found in Jennings County

Jennings County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a meth lab on the back porch of a home in Sand Creek Township.

Sheriff’s deputies along with officers from the Westport Police Department arrested two people after a short foot pursuit near a home on County Road 925N at about 7 p.m. Friday when they discovered the lab, said Lt. Mike Mowery, sheriff’s department spokesman.

Westport police officer Joe Talkington had received an anonymous tip that a wanted person — Edward Dale Richardson, 53, North Vernon — was at a house on County Road 925N, Mowery said.

When officers arrived, they noticed two people running toward a wooded area behind the residence and Sgt. Allen Ritchie caught Richardson, Mowery said.

Deputy Drew Heilers, reserve deputy Jason Littrell and Westport police officer Ryan Arbuckle caught Steven Fletcher, 33, Greensburg after chasing him for about 200 yards and using a stun gun to subdue him. Fletcher was taken to St. Vincent Jennings Hospital and later transported to an Indianapolis hospital for a facial injury suffered in a fall, Mowery said.

Deputies also located Logan Ramey, 20, Greensburg, inside the home, Mowery said.

Deputy David Turner and Indiana State Police trooper Marty Mead dismantled the methamphetamine lab as officers found methamphetamine, paraphernalia and precursors inside the home, Mowery said. Jennings County deputies have found at least three meth labs in the county so far this year.

Richardson was charged with:

Felony manufacturing methamphetamine

A warrant of out Ripley County for possession of marijuana

Felony possession of two or more precursors

Felony possession of methamphetamine

Felony possession of paraphernalia

Felony maintaining a common nuisance

Misdemeanor resisting law enforcement

Ramey was charged with:

Felony manufacturing methamphetamine

Felony possession of two or more precursors

Felony possession of methamphetamine

Felony possession of paraphernalia

Felony maintaining a common nuisance

Ramey and Richardson are each being held at the Jennings County Jail in lieu of $2,055 bond, jail officials said.

Charges against Fletcher are pending with the Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office, Mowery said.
