Lyman Brady Monroe, 83, of County Road 550N, Columbus, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at his home.

Lyman was born February 23, 1933, in Indianapolis, the son of Cyrus Brady and Lelia Augusta Donahue Monroe. He married Barbara Jean Ayers June 5, 1955.

Lyman was a long-time carpenter and contractor. He was a member of NRA and was a luthier who enjoyed making guitars.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Eli Johnson officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.

Survivors include his sons, Kevin (Linda) Monroe of Columbus, Todd (Cheryl) Monroe of Hope and Pat (Julie) Monroe of Nashville; a daughter, Sandra (Richard) Crawford of Columbus; brother, Larry Joe (Doris) Monroe of Flat Rock; grandchildren, Justin Monroe, Lyman Keegan Monroe, J.B. Monroe, Alexis Roberts and Logan Monroe Crawford; and great-grandchildren, Kaiden James Monroe, Jordan Lee and Samuel Christopher Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; brother, Donald Lee Monroe; and a grandson, Christopher Aaron Crawford.
