Joy Hope George Dutro, 84, of Columbus, Indiana and Bradenton, Florida, passed from this life at 4:10 p.m. on her husband’s birthday, Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mrs. Dutro was born February 8, 1932, in Columbus, the only daughter of Adrian and Florence George. She married Don Dutro on Easter Sunday 1952. He preceded her in death August 7, 1999.

Mrs. Dutro was a 1950 graduate of Columbus High School. She had an excellent sense of fashion and style. She worked at Dalton & Payne Men’s Store and later bought Milton’s Hat Shop and rebranded it as Joy’s Bridal Shoppe which she owned and operated for over 20 years.

Mrs. Dutro was an avid golfer and participated in various ladies’ golf leagues. She was an excellent bridge/card player and she played in the same bridge club for over 50 years with some of whom were her grade school friends. She was a two-time state ping pong champion.

Great Lady and Big Daddy enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveled with other couples to dance to their favorite bands.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbus, the Elks Club, Moose Lodge, and Zonta. She was also a member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority where she was active in fund raising for cancer research.

She relished the time she spent with her extended family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Adrienne (Jerald) Hatton of Columbus, George (Karen) Dutro of Columbus and Angela (Dave) Toner of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Andrew (Tara) Hatton, Christopher Hatton, Cole Toner and Karen Dutro; and great-grandchildren, Emmalee and Lilliann Hatton.

Mrs. Dutro was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Garland Brook Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Daniel Cash officiating.

Family and friends may call from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.

Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum.

A celebration of life gathering for Mrs. Dutro will be announced at a later date.
