SOFTBALL

Bull Dogs edge Falcons

Columbus North scored three times in the first two innings Thursday and held on for a 3-2 win against Perry Meridian.

The win enabled the Bull Dogs (6-11, 2-1) to finish second in the Conference Indiana East Division. They will play for first through fourth place in the conference tournament May 14 at Franklin Central.

Madisyn Prince, coming off a no-hitter against Southport on Monday, threw a five-hitter this time. She struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Prince also singled in Lauren Imlay with the game’s first run in the second. Katie Prall had a two-out RBI-single, scoring Paige Deneve.

Imlay, who went 2 for 3, added an RBI-single in the third.

Jets thump Eagles

HOPE — Class A No. 2 Hauser scored seven times in the first inning and rolled to a 17-4 win against Jac-Cen-Del.

Leslie Sims went 4 for 4 with three doubles for the Jets (10-0). Tessa Sims went 2 for 3 with two doubles, Sydney Schoen went 2 for 3 with a double, Kali Schumacher went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and Abby Kidwell and went 2 for 3.

Bulldogs edge Panthers

NEW ALBANY — Jennings County outhit New Albany 12-7 but saw its rally come up just short in a 9-8 loss at New Albany.

Bug Donnell went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Kyndyl Olds went 3 for 5 with two RBIs for the Panthers (7-6). Kaylin Klosterman went 2 for 4 and Tesla Kopitzke had two RBIs.

Jennings suffered a big blow on Wednesday when it found out shortstop and top run-producer Sidney Gerkin was lost for the season with a strained PCL and broken fibula. Gerkin was injured in a collision in Tuesday’s win against Columbus East.

GIRLS TENNIS

Bull Dogs edge Flashes

INDIANAPOLIS — Co-No. 21 Columbus North mixed up its doubles teams and won three matches in straight sets to claim a 3-2 Conference Indiana East Division win at Franklin Central.

Aubrey Smith beat Addison Laker 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Paige Littrell blanked Emma Lee 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles for the Bull Dogs (9-4, 2-0). Yijaing Zhao and Shweta Srinivasan downed Emily Crowel and Rilie May 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Camille Chevalier, filling in for the ill Madelyn Sanders and No. 3 singles, fell to Emily Nordhoff 6-3, 6-3. Hannah Frey and Hannah Shoemaker lost to Jasmine Kalia and Zarlynn Hall 6-3, 7-6 (4) at No. 1 doubles.

Red Devils top Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County won the No. 1 singles match, but Jeffersonville pulled out three three-set wins in a 4-1 victory.

Avis McGovern beat Haley Asplund 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Panthers. Rebecca Driver fell to Katie Gernand 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Stefani Williams lost to Cameron Kearney 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Elaine Lykins and Amy Gasper fell to Libby West and McKenna Woodard 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Hailee Harmon and Maddy Hill lost to Ally Ward and Gabby Elder 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers blank Royals

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Edinburgh won two matches by shutout in a 5-0 Mid-Hoosier Conference victory at Eastern Hancock.

Vanessa Hoskins beat Kayla Huff at No. 1 singles, and Allie Schooler blanked Taylor Kline at No. 3 singles by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Lillie Parmer downed Emiley Carlton 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Meghan Collett and Sydney Schlotter topped Lexi McMahan and Channing Bearhope 7-6, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Emma Westerfeld and Hannah Gosman beat Olivia Scott and Erin McKeeman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

BASEBALL

Jets down Twisters

HOPE — Hauser broke a 3-3 tie with six runs in the third and went on to post a 10-5 win against Oldenburg Academy.

Jared Schoen went 2 for 2 with three stolen bases, and Will Rose went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs for the Jets (3-6). Winning pitcher Sam Meek went 2 for 3 and Cameron Hartog went 2 for 4.

Columbus Christian falls

The South Decatur JV scored 11 times in the sixth inning to overcome a 14-12 deficit and went on to post a 24-15 win at Columbus Christian.

Logan Roth went 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs to lead a 14-hit attack for the Crusaders (1-6). Jacob Mee went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Josh Jones went 2 for 3, Aaron Armarales went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and Levi Sallee went 2 for 5 with three RBIs.

Eagles down Lancers

EDINBURGH — Brown County used a nine-run fifth to spark a 13-5 win at Edinburgh.

Coltan Henderson went 3 for 3 for the Lancers. Jentry Lange went 3 for 4.

BOYS GOLF

Lancers fall to Cougars

FRANKLIN — Edinburgh came out on the short end of a 201-208 decision against Greenwood Christian at Deer Valley.

Jacob Riddle led the Lancers with a 48. Zach Pendleton carded a 50, Bladen Hancock added a 53, Keegan Jones shot 57, Gabe Wilson had a 58 and Dalton Bieker and Brandon Carmin each shot 60.
