Former North player signs

Staff and wire reports

The final round of the National Football League draft came and went Saturday, and Columbus North graduate Jake Reed’s name was not called — but any disappointment he might have felt as a result of not being selected went away pretty quickly.

On Saturday evening, Reed accepted an invitation to join the Atlanta Falcons. The Indiana University center will fly out Thursday and participate in the Falcons’ three-day rookie minicamp, which begins Friday.

“Things worked out,” Reed said. “I got called by the team I was hoping to get called by, so I’m happy with it.”

Reed also had been extended a minicamp invitation by the Kansas City Chiefs, but he decided that Atlanta’s system would suit him a bit better.

“I think their offense is similar to what we did at IU, and I think that just felt like the right fit for me,” Reed explained.
