Most people know Jeri Cannon for her beautiful brush strokes on everything from decorator wine glasses to artsy violins and spacious murals.
But since becoming a fitness instructor for Columbus Regional Health’s Wellness Program in June 2015, the 62-year-old local resident is known for presenting a picture of health. She’s faced a few struggles over the years.
“After I quit smoking,” she said, “I gained 20 pounds and thought the world had come to an end. But with persistence, I lost the weight and improved my health.”
Although she regularly leads various strength-oriented yoga and other classes in Columbus, she also plans to put more muscle into her artwork soon by working on everything from children’s rooms to doctor’s offices.

» Briefly describe your daily/weekly workout routine (besides classes).
Step aerobics, yoga, biking.
» What inspired you to begin a regular fitness routine?
I always had an abundance of energy and needed a way to channel it. I appreciated the muscle definition I noticed on women in the gym and decided weight lifting was something I would enjoy.
» Why is it something you have stuck with?
It makes me feel good which creates the domino effect to all other areas of my life.
