Hope American Legion post conducting 8 services on Memorial Day

Hope American Legion Post 229 will make eight stops on Memorial Day, a long tradition that includes ceremonies at each area cemetery, culminating with the largest event at the Veterans Memorial of the Hope Moravian Cemetery, which usually draws several hundred people.

Members will gather 8 a.m. Monday at Hope Post 229, 208 Washington St., from where they will begin their morning schedule.

  • 8:30 a.m.: Sharon Cemetery (which includes Jonathan Moore’s grave), east side of County Road 700E, south of County Road 300N
  • 8:50 a.m.: Newbern Cemetery, northeast of Vine and East streets in Newbern
  • 9:15 a.m.: Hartsville Town Square
  • 9:40: Hawcreek Church Cemetery, 900 E. Stafford Road
  • 10 a.m.: Simmons Cemetery, east side of County Road 625E, south of County Road 950N
  • 10:15 a.m.: Old St. Louis Cemetery, east side of County Road 670E, south of County Road 800N
  • 10:30 a.m.: Hawcreek Bridge (on West Jackson Street, for those lost at sea)
  • 11 a.m.: Veterans Memorial at Hope Moravian Cemetery, west side of State Road 9, south of Hope Town Square
