Salute special section inside today’s paper

Leading up to each Memorial Day, The Republic provides a 24-page special section — Salute! — which includes stories of Bartholomew County veterans who made a difference during their time of service. That section can be found inside today’s edition.

Honoring those members of the armed forces starts with this special section today and includes Friday’s Salute concert on the lawn of the Bartholomew County Courthouse, which starts at 7 p.m. Guest vocalist Donata Cucinotta will perform Friday night with the Columbus Indiana Symphony Orchestra.

The theme for both the Salute! section and Salute! concert is the Vietnam War, which began in 1965 and ended 10 years later. Among nearly 60,000 U.S. service members who died in the war, more than two dozen were from Bartholomew County. Biographies of those men are contained in today’s special section, as are profiles of soldiers who were fortunate to survive.
