Fire department at full staff with new hires

Columbus Fire Department has hired two new firefighters, bringing it to full staffing at 95.

Daniel Pinnow, 27, is a Columbus native, a 2007 graduate of Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour and North Vernon resident since 2012. He has been a volunteer firefighter for the last two years, and currently serves as a volunteer for both the Vernon and North Vernon fire departments. Pinnow is state certified for Firefighter I and II and is currently obtaining an Instructor I certification.

Josh Hanson, 24, is a 2009 graduate of Southwestern High School in Shelby County, and a current Hope resident. He is a 2014 graduate of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana with an associate degree in public safety. After graduation, Hanson completed an internship with the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department in Hancock County. Hanson is a state certified EMT and also holds a state certification for Firefighter l and II.

They were sworn in by Mayor Jim Lienhoop at Tuesday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.

Pinnow and Hanson will undergo a department familiarization program as part of their on-the-job training. After completing the 10-week training program, they will receive shift and station assignments.
