Richard Steven Slaughter Jr., 75, of Columbus, passed from this life at 5:51 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at the Columbus Regional Hospital Emergency Room.

Steve retired from Lennox Industries and was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was a member of Brown County Antique Tractor Club, the American Legion, Midstates Jeepster Association and Indiana Historical Society and was a former member of the Indiana Beekeepers Association.

He enjoyed rebuilding Allis Chalmers antique tractors and Jeepsters, wood working and traveling the world with his wife.

He loved his grandchildren and supported all their activities.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Crown Hill Cemetery Gothic Chapel in Indianapolis.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike and from 10 a.m. to time of service Friday at Crown Hill Cemetery Gothic Chapel.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors presented by the U.S. Army Ceremonial Unit.

Mr. Slaughter was born in Peru, Indiana, June 21, 1940, the son of Richard Steven Slaughter Sr. and Goldie Evelyn Stanger Slaughter.

He married Reta Weeks August 26, 1962.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years; his daughter, Jennifer (Curtis) Harris of Indianapolis and Stephanie (Jeff) Middaugh of Nappanee; a daughter-in-law, Paige Slaughter of Zionsville; grandchildren, Lindsey Slaughter, Madison Harris, Jacob Harris, Anna Slaughter, Cooper Middaugh, twins Mary and Rebecca Slaughter and Wesley Middaugh; a brother, Danny (Patricia) Slaughter of Florida; and a sister, Barbara (Robert) Smith of Converse, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dan Slaughter.
