Can East, North advance to state finals?

For the Columbus East and Columbus North boys golf teams, last week’s sectional at Greensburg Country Club held about as much suspense as the typical Harlem Globetrotters game.

Advancing to today’s Providence Regional was never a matter of if — both the Olympians and Bull Dogs finished more than 35 shots clear of the fourth-place team. Getting through the regional and advancing to the state finals will be a much taller order.

East and North are joined by Brown County and Jennings County this morning at Champions Pointe in Henryville, part of a loaded 18-team field that includes Center Grove, the state’s No. 1-ranked team.

The top three teams, along with the top five individuals not on one of those teams, move on to state next week. Will one or both of the Columbus schools make the cut?
