Local man picked for Selective Service System board

David S. Shymkus, Columbus, has been named to the Selective Service System Area Office local board for the state of Indiana.

Shymkus has been assigned to a board position in Region 1, headquartered in North Chicago, Illinois.

The Selective Service System is in place to provide manpower to the armed forces in an emergency and to run an alternative service program for men classified as conscientious objectors during a draft.

Federal law requires men ages 18 to 25 to register with the Selective Service System.
