Columbus man arrested on charge of meth possession

Columbus police arrested a local man on a warrant and later learned he had methamphetamine inside a cigarette pack.

Zackary C. Townsend, 26, 3963 N. County Road 150W, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and a Bartholomew Superior Court II bench warrant for failure to appear on a charge of conversion, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

At about 7:40 p.m. Thursday, Sgt. Kyle Young and officer Troy Love saw Townsend in the 100 block of Reo Street and arrested him on the warrant out of Bartholomew Superior Court 2 for failure to appear on a conversion charge, Harris said.

When searching Townsend, the officers found a small amount of methamphetamine inside a cigarette pack in Townsend’s pocket and arrested him on an additional preliminary charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Townsend is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $62,500 bond, jail officials said.
