Alliance/Express falls in Region II opener

WESTFIELD — The Alliance/Columbus Express Soccer Club U14 Orange girls soccer team twice held one-goal leads Friday, but TFA Elite rallied for a 4-2 victory in the opening game of the Region II Championships at Grand Park.

Carlie Werner scored in the 17th minute to give Alliance/Express a 1-0 lead. TFA Elite, which is from the Cincinnati area, tied the game in the 24th minute, and the game was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Sasha Thompson gave Alliance/Express a 2-1 lead early in the second half, but TFA Elite came back with three more goals to post the victory.

Alliance/Express continues Group C play at 2:30 p.m. today against United Hurricanes from Howard, Wisconsin. The final group game is at 11 a.m. Sunday against LSC EGA Maroon from Omaha, Nebraska.

Alliance/Express likely will have to win its final two group games to have a shot at making the semifinals, which are at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The championship game is at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
