John C. Rich, 86, of Columbus, died at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville, Indiana.

John was born in Campbell, Ohio, Sept. 4, 1929, the son of Frank M. and Julia C. Gianjacamo Rich. He married Joanne Smith August 11, 1951, in Johnson City, Tennessee. She survives.

He was an independent insurance agent and operated John Rich Insurance Agency for 20 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was an industrial engineer for U.S. Steel from 1955 to 1960 and worked for Cosco from 1966 to 1977. He attended U.S. Technological Institute and graduated from Southern Baptist Seminary. He was an ordained Baptist minister and an active member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he taught an adult Sunday school class. He was chairperson for the Senior Mixed Bowling League and Men’s League. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball and the New York Yankees.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne, of Columbus; son, Tim (Kim) Rich of Waynesville, North Carolina; daughter, Patricia (Tim) Magoon of Columbus; four grandchildren; six great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Joseph Rich of Riverside, California, and Frank Rich of Hemet, California; and sisters, Palma Rich, Phyllis Rich and Rosemary Rich of Sun City, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Louise Rich.

Funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Scott Murphy officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Sunday. Military rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard at the funeral home prior to the service.

Mr. Rich will be cremated and private inurnment will be at a later date in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
