Political adviser to speak at Democratic Party event

The Bartholomew County Democratic Party’s next quarterly dinner is 6 p.m. Thursday at the Donner Park Shelter House.

The guest speaker is Robin Winston, a business owner and political adviser from Indianapolis. He is a former adviser to Gov. Frank O’Bannon and was the first African-American to become the chairman of a major political party in Indiana. During his time as chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party, Winston oversaw Democratic victories in the governor’s office, statehouse and local races throughout the state.

Winston recently completed a capital campaign for the Levi Coffin House, a project with the Indiana State Museum commemorating a major component of Indiana’s Underground Railroad. This year also saw the release of Indiana Trailblazers, an Emmy-nominated film which Winston helped to produce. The film highlights the role of Hoosiers who were leaders in the civil rights movement.
