Brian’s picks – June 30

A few years ago, my wife introduced me to the King’s Singers’ heavenly harmonies and musical mix spanning classical to pop-rock. To hear them on a recording is one thing, where they have ample opportunity to repeat each note until perfection rings. To hear them live, I’m sure, is another matter entirely. The nearly flawless two-time Grammy winners will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. July 9 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 1306 27th St., to mark the 10th anniversary of the church’s eclectic music series. Tickets are $25, available at the church, Viewpoint Books, the Columbus Area Visitors Center and at ticketriver.com. Information: 812-379-9353.

Director Julie Hult knows a thing or two about putting together a community musical. I discovered that when I saw her production of the lavish “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” in 1998. She sits in the director’s chair again with Mill Race Theatre Company’s presentation of “Oliver!” at 7 p.m. July 8 and 9 and 2:30 p.m. July 10 at Judson Erne Auditorium, 1400 25th St. in Columbus. I trust she will again work her magic. Advance tickets are $6 to $10. Information: Facebook page for Oliver! A Community Musical.
