Investigators seek public’s help in hit-and-run involving child

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking the public’s help in finding a car that struck a child riding a bicycle.

Deputy Matt Bush was sent to the intersection of South Aspen Road and Brush Creek about 10 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a bicyclist hit by a car.

Deputies said two boys were riding their bicycles home from a friend’s house when a 13-year-old was struck by a gold-colored, four-door vehicle.

The boy who was injured was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, deputies said. The boy who was with him said the two were traveling southbound on South Aspen and turning westbound onto Brush Creek when the car hit his friend’s bicycle.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department at 812-379-1650.

Deputies said they also arrested a local woman who was driving in the area of the hit-and-run accident about 10 p.m. who became so upset when she was unable to drive down the roadway that she began attacking deputies.

Barbara Kennedy, 47, Elizabethtown, was arrested on preliminary charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer, deputies said. Kennedy was later released from the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $12,000 bond, jail officials said.
