Herbert J. Brandenburg, 83, of Columbus, passed from this life at 5:08 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mr. Brandenburg was born Dec. 20, 1932, in Camden, Ohio, to William and Hazel Tharp Brandenburg. He married Anna Evelyn Hessler June 4, 1955.

Mr. Brandenburg was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Brandenburg retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1996 after 37 years of service.

A member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Mr. Brandenburg loved to read, tend to his garden and go fishing. He was known as a “jack of all trades”.

Mr. Brandenburg is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; daughters, Rita Campbell of Edinburgh, Alice (Gary) Warren of Columbus and Denise Morris of Scottsburg; grandsons, Nathan (Melanie) Nichols and Zach (Kim) Campbell; great-grandson, Ethan Campbell; his twin brother, Hubert (Beverly) Brandenburg of Columbus; sisters, Peggy Sawyer and Joyce Brandenburg of College Corner; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brandenburg was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Opal Martin and Juanita Brandenburg; and brothers, Joseph and Robert Brandenburg.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Andy Syberg officiating. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum. Full military rites will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.
