North grad receives scholarship

A Columbus North grad has received a National Merit Scholarship.

Zoe Arbuckle, of Columbus, received the National Merit Purdue University Scholarship.

Arbuckle, who was salutatorian of North’s Class of 2016, is the daughter of Ivan and Caroline Arbuckle.

She plans to attend Purdue majoring in computer science with a minor in Japanese.

She was a National Honor Society officer; academic letter winner; Miyoshi City, Japan Friendship Ambassador for 2016 trip; English Academic Bowl winner; National Merit Semifinalist; and she participated in Youth Leadership Bartholomew County.

Officials at each National Merit sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the program who plan to attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the sponsoring university.

About 7,300 graduating seniors received 2016 National Merit Scholarship awards valued at a total of $33 million this year.
