Albert M. Hill, 93, of Columbus, died at 11:38 a.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Hill was born December 29, 1922, in Jonesville, to Albert and Rena Thomas Hill. He married Frieda A. Waggoner August 9, 1941. She preceded him in death May 15, 2008.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army January 30, 1943, at Indianapolis, Indiana. He rose to the rank of Technician Fifth Grade during World War II, serving Company C 207th Engineers. He fought in the battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. On November 9, 1945, he was honorably discharged at Camp Atterbury, receiving the EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Hill was a driver for Southern Transportation and then later for Associated Truck Lines, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Teamsters Union and he enjoyed caring for his home and yard and keeping the showroom shine on his cars.

Survivors include three children, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, four grandchildren and a sister.

A private graveside service will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery with Pastor Dennis W. Aud officiating. Full military rites will be presented by Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana or Riley Hospital for Children.
